As far as damaging the muscles, well yeah, micro-tears occur when you exercise at a high intensity, but that’s not “stripping” your muscles; these micro tears are what causes your muscles to become larger.
Biologically, it makes zero sense for your body to strip muscle from your bones to use it as energy, when you have an abundance of fat tiring your entire mid section.
